Simhachalam Temple
The Sthala Purana of Simhachalam comprises 32 chapters, symbolizing Narasimha’s manifestations. According to Dr. V. C. Krishnamacharyulu, these legends, along with those of other Hindu temples in Andhra Pradesh, were composed in the 14th century after attempts to establish Islam in the region. He stated that the writers drew inspiration from Narasimha’s stories in Hindu puranas, mainly the Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana. The Simhachalam legend also reveals new details about the past life of the temple’s founder, Prahlada. Its first four chapters highlight the significance of Simhachalam, its deity, and the main water source, Gangadhara.
